By leveraging Ancor’s data management expertise and labeling SaaS application, Ford was able to improve efficiency at one of its Mexico plants.
Ford – Data Management & SaaS Case Study
In 2018, Ford Motor Company (Ancor’s largest customer) initiated a major project to reduce the number of days from product order to delivery for one of its Mexico plants. Ancor, which was responsible for printing all of the VIN-specific labels for the vehicles produced in this facility, was on a long list of suppliers tasked with developing a time-savings solution. At the time, Ancor was printing all of the labels in its Troy, Michigan facility and having them expedited to Mexico—a process that was running about three days from start to finish.
Ancor developed three potential scenarios to meet the criteria set forth by the Ford project team:
- An Ancor print facility that would be located adjacent to the plant in Mexico. Parts would then be shipped into the plant on a “just-in-time” basis triggered by the customer. This solution would decouple the print activity from the manufacturing process, thereby eliminating printer downtime, printer maintenance, supplies, backup equipment, parts, and labor.
- A print facility run by Ancor personnel that would be located inside the Ford Mexico plant. This solution would also decouple the print activity from the manufacturing process, and achieve the same efficiencies as outlined in the first proposed solution.
- A SaaS model that would provide Ford all of the necessary files to print the provided images within the plant, which would be managed by Ford personnel with oversight from Ancor.
Ford ultimately selected the SaaS solution, as it was the option that would allow the plant to best leverage Ancor’s expertise in transforming raw data into flawless print images while meeting its time-reduction goals. This SaaS application gave Ford the ability to print on-demand production labels almost immediately after the data is loaded into the system from anywhere in the world.
Once the solution was selected, Ancor implemented an on-site training program for Ford’s employees on the proper printing techniques that have been built and developed over the last 30 years in Ancor’s centralized production center. The software solution – combined with in-depth operational training – proved to be a great success, helping Ford stay within budget and improving turnaround times for printing and labeling vehicles at the facility.
